Chris’ Cool Cars: 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider
Before Carroll Shelby went racing with Ford and ultimately beat Ferrari in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he was winning races as a driver with Ferrari. Yeah, really, he was. And the car he won more races with than any other is the 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider pictured here.
Shelby drove this gorgeous machine to eight wins and ten podiums during the 1956 and 1957 race seasons. He wasn’t’ the only famous driver behind the wheel of this car though. Juan Manuel Fangio drove the car as the works Ferrari entry at the 1956 1000 KM Buenos Aires, and it was also driven by Phil Hill and others for a total of 11 victories and 19 podiums from 1956-1958.
This car clearly has significant racing history. It also retains its factory numbers-matching V12 engine, transmission a Scaglietti body work. Add it all up, and this is one of the most valuable cars in the world. How valuable? Find out in August when it crosses the auction block at RM Sotheby’s during Monterey Car Week.
