Chris’ Cool Cars: Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS
Have you ever wondered what would happen if Porsche took the 911 GT3’s naturally aspirated 4.0L flat-six and put it in the new Cayman? No?!!! Well I have, and it seems enough Porsche customers have too, so Porsche went ahead and did it. Behold, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS.
Ever since we were first introduced to the Cayman back in 2005, enthusiast have wondered if Porsche would ever allow it to compete with the mighty 911. For the longest time, the answer has been no, but the world is changing. It’s rumored that the next iteration of the 718 Cayman is going to be electric, which means if Porsche was ever going to build the ultimate version of the Cayman, they have to do it now.
The new GT4 RS has 493hp, 331lb-ft of torque and a 9000rpm redline. Sounds fun doesn’t it? The motor is almost a copy of the 911 GT3 motor, but it’s not 100% identical. The dry sump system was updated to fit the mid-engine chassis, the intake and exhaust had to be modified to fit also.
Anyway, there are a lot more details about the new Porsche that I’m not going to bore you with. I will tell you that if you want one, they start at $141,700 and it’s totally possible to spec one out to over $200,000. Go ahead, build one yourself on Porsche’s Online Configurator. I’ll take mine in Racing Yellow…
