Chris’ Cool Cars: LEGO Back to the Future Time Machine
Are you telling me you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean? Yes Marty, that’s exactly what Doc did. The 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 that Doc Brown turned into the Back to the Future Time Machine is one of the most instantly recognizable movie cars of all time. It might just be one of the most important movie cars ever, and I has become part of the fabric of American pop culture.
Now, another icon, LEGO has created a must-have set for all us “nerds” who are still kids at heart. Available April 1, 2022, LEGO has introduced a 1872 piece set that can be built as one of the three versions of the DeLorean used in the the Back to the Future Trilogy.
The DeLorean Time Machine that most of us are familiar with is the one from the first movie, and the LEGO version even includes a light-up flux capacitor and a box of plutonium, you know, to create 1.21 gigawatts! The other buildable versions are the flying DeLorean from the second movie, complete with a Mr. Fusion and of course the you can build the wild west version from the third film with railroad-ready wheels. Which was your favorite?
I can’t wait for this set to come out. It’s like a dream come true. The only thing that could make it better for us detailers would be a companion LEGO model of the yellow Biff’s Auto Detailing Ford Courier pickup truck.
