Chris’ Cool Cars: Meyers Manx 2.0

Bruce Meyer’s iconic Dune Buggy is back, but not exactly as you might expect. There is no Volkswagen Beetle under that modern, updated fiberglass body. It’s now an all new battery powered electric drivetrain.

The Meyers Manx 2.0 was designed by legendary car designer Freeman Thomas, who also designed the new Volkswagen Beetle. The off-roader will be available with two batter options, a 20kWh option with 150 miles of range and a 40kWh model with 202 hp, 240 lb-ft of torque and 300 miles of range.

The car should hit 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds. Not crazy fast by today’s standards, but fast enough! The care has independent rear suspension, front and read disc brakes with regenerative braking, power steering and more. So what you say? Well, the original from over 40 years ago had none of that stuff.

Pre-orders have started. The first 50 will be built and delivered in 2023, with many more to follow.
