Chris’ Cool Cars: Emory Porsche 356 RSR

Is this cool or what? Rod Emory creates some of the coolest Porsche 356 builds you will ever see, but who is Rod Emory?

Rod’s grandfather Nell built modified sports cars and hot rods at his Valley Custom Shop in Burbank, California and later worked in the body shop at a Newport Beach Porsche dealership. The passion for car-building and Porsches trickled down to Rod’s father, Gary who eventually opened up a shop in Costa Mesa called Porsche Parts Obsolete, which provided parts for vintage Porsches. Fun fact, Nell and Gary are credited for building the first ever Baja Bug.

Anyway, it probably comes as no surprise that Rod picked up a few things from his Dad and Grandfather. By the time he was in high school, he was helping his father customize vintage Porsches, which have since become known as Emory Outlaws.  Years later, Rod Emory started Emory Motorsports where he builds what are arguably the most beautiful Porsche 356’s in the world, like the Porsche 356 RSR here.

This is a monster mash-up of a car. It started off as a 1960 365B T5 coupe, but has been blended with a 1990 964 chassis. All the body work has been hand-formed from aluminum and it’s fitted with a twin-turbo 393 horsepower Emory-Rothsport flat-four engine.

I’ve been lucky enough to see this car in person, and it truly is a work-of-art and amazing piece of engineering. Keep your eyes open for other Emory builds. You will be glad you did.
